From I to we

Add -naa for we and revisit -tu for I.

The idea

Naḥnu means we, regardless of gender. Put -naa on the same closed stem: katabnaa, we wrote. Hold the final aa. The verb already identifies the subject, so the pronoun can often be left out; we show it here to make the pattern clear.

كَتَبَ

kataba — he wrote

naḥnu — we

-naa marks we, for any gender and for two or more speakers. Hold the final aa.

كَتَبْنَا

katabnaa — we wrote

anaa — I

-tu marks I, for any speaker.

كَتَبْتُ

katabtu — I wrote
