Stand and walk: changing the edges
Meet initial-weak and final-weak verbs through a few fixed forms.
Stand: initial weak
Learn وَقَفَ he stood; يَقِفُ he stands; أَقِفُ I stand; نَقِفُ we stand; قِفْ stand! (one male). In these present and command forms the root's initial و is absent. This behavior is not a rule for every verb starting with و.
وَقَفَ / يَقِفُ / قِفْ
waqafa / yaqifu / qif
Walk: final weak
Learn مَشَى he walked; يَمْشِي he walks; أَمْشِي I walk; نَمْشِي we walk. In the past spelling ى is alif maqsura, while present ي is yā. Command to one male: اِمْشِ; after لم: لَمْ يَمْشِ. Those last forms drop ي and keep kasra.
مَشَى / يَمْشِي / اِمْشِ
mashā / yamshī / imshi
