Say what does not happen

Use لا with indicative present forms.

A negative statement

Put لا before the present verb: لا أكتب I do not write. In these statements لا leaves the indicative endings in place: لا تكتبين, لا يكتبون. This is different from a negative command, introduced later.

لَا أَكْتُبُ / لَا تَكْتُبِينَ

Short answers

نعم means yes and لا means no. For a full negative answer: لا، أنا لا أدرس في البيت. The first لا answers the question; the second negates the verb.
