Not a student, not at home
Learn selected forms of ليس and preserve person vowels.
Negate identity or location
Use ليس for these present nominal sentences. Learn: لَيْسَ he is not; لَيْسَتْ she is not; لَسْتُ I am not; لَسْتَ you are not (one male); لَسْتِ you are not (one female); لَسْنَا we are not.
لَسْتُ / لَسْتَ / لَسْتِ
Identity and place
A noun/adjective predicate after ليس takes accusative case: هُوَ لَيْسَ طَالِبًا; هِيَ لَيْسَتْ طَالِبَةً. A prepositional phrase remains a phrase: أَنَا لَسْتُ فِي الْبَيْتِ. We use location for most practice to keep the new load small.
هُوَ لَيْسَ طَالِبًا
He is not a student.
Typing rule
For لست forms the vowel on ت must be present. A minimal spelling such as لستُ is accepted; لست alone is not, because it could mean I, masculine you or feminine you.
