Eat, take and ask politely
Learn explicit hamza forms in a short food context.
Two roots with hamza
أكل and أخذ are hamzated verbs, not weak-root verbs. Learn the selected forms; do not derive them using the earlier sound-past model alone.
Eat: explicit forms
He ate أَكَلَ; I ate أَكَلْتُ; he eats يَأْكُلُ; I eat آكُلُ; we eat نَأْكُلُ. Commands: كُلْ (one male), كُلِي (one female). The I form begins with آ, alif madda; the command drops the root hamza.
آكُلُ / كُلْ / كُلِي
ākulu / kul / kulī
Take: explicit forms
He took أَخَذَ; I took أَخَذْتُ; he takes يَأْخُذُ; I take آخُذُ; we take نَأْخُذُ. Commands: خُذْ (one male), خُذِي (one female). These short commands are lexical exceptions, not a rule for every hamzated root.
آخُذُ / خُذْ / خُذِي
Food and a small request
خبز bread; ماء water; تفّاحة an apple. Read: أنا آكل خبزًا في الصباح. عندي ماء. هذه تفّاحة. A request to one woman is خُذِي مِنْ فَضْلِكِ, take, please. No object is needed when it is clear from context.
أنا آكل خبزًا في الصباح
I eat bread in the morning.
