Match adjectives and distinguish a phrase from a sentence.

After the noun

An attributive adjective follows its noun and agrees in gender and definiteness: كتاب جديد a new book; المدرسة الجديدة the new school. جديد/جديدة mean new; كبير/كبيرة mean big; صغير/صغيرة mean small.

A whole statement

With a definite subject and an indefinite adjective, الكتاب جديد means the book is new. Compare الكتاب الجديد, the new book: a phrase, not the same statement.

البيت كبير / البيت الكبير

Non-human plurals

كتب means books. In these ordinary MSA examples a non-human plural takes feminine singular agreement: الكتب جديدة; هذه كتب جديدة. Do not transfer this agreement to groups of people.
