Distinguish where something is from where someone goes.

Where? Locative phrases

Learn у Києві (in Kyiv), у парку (in the park), у школі (at school), на вокзалі (at the station), на столі (on the table). The base nouns are Київ, парк, школа, вокзал, стіл. These are selected locative forms.

Where to?

до takes genitive: до Києва, до школи, до вокзалу. Learn я їду (I am going by vehicle), він/вона їде, ми їдемо and ви їдете. These motion forms are learned separately.

Ми їдемо до Києва.

Use location naturally

Де? asks where; Куди? asks where to. У and в can alternate for euphony. Practise the supplied phrases, not a rule that every place uses у.
