Pronouns and introductions

Identify people and write short present-tense introductions.

Who is speaking?

я = I; ти = you (one familiar person); він = he; вона = she; воно = it (neuter); ми = we; ви = you (plural or polite singular); вони = they. Third-person pronouns also track the grammatical gender of things.

No a or the

Ukrainian has no articles corresponding to English a/an/the. Context supplies definiteness. In simple present identity statements, an equivalent of am/is/are is usually omitted.

Я студент. Вона студентка. Це книга.

Small vocabulary

студент = male student; студентка = female student; книга = book; тут = here; там = there; це = this/that is. Order exercises request one practice pattern; Ukrainian permits other orders.
