Pronouns and introductions

Choose pronouns by person, relationship and inclusion.

People

saya = I (neutral); aku = I (familiar); kamu = you (familiar singular); Anda = you (formal/neutral, capital A); dia = he/she without a gender distinction; kalian = you (familiar plural); mereka = they.

Two kinds of we

kami excludes the listener; kita includes the listener. These are not interchangeable. Bapak/Pak and Ibu/Bu are respectful ways to address adults; Anda is not the best choice in every social setting.

Short introductions

Saya guru = I am a teacher. Dia mahasiswa = he/she is a university student. No am/is/are is required in these simple identity sentences. nama = name; teman = friend. Verbs do not acquire person endings.
