Describe things and rooms

Use adjectives after nouns and as predicates.

Adjectives after nouns

rumah besar = a big house; buku baru = a new book; kamar kecil = a small room. besar = big; kecil = small; baru = new; bersih = clean. Adjectives do not change for gender, number or case.

Point to a thing, then describe it

Rumah itu besar = That house is big. Compare rumah besar itu = that big house. Itu follows the noun phrase it points to. No obligatory is is needed.

Strength of description

sangat bersih = very clean; mahal sekali = very expensive. Sangat comes before the adjective; sekali follows it in this pattern. Air dingin = cold water; air panas = hot water.

Kamar itu sangat bersih.
