Describe and count things

Combine adjectives, selected plurals, and a number.

Before a noun

დიდი = big; პატარა = small; კარგი = good; ახალი = new. Adjectives normally come before the noun. დიდი სახლი = a big house; პატარა წიგნი = a small book.

Selected plurals

წიგნი → წიგნები (books); სახლი → სახლები (houses); მეგობარი → მეგობრები (friends). Keep the adjective singular before a plural noun: ახალი წიგნები. With ორი (two), use the singular noun: ორი წიგნი.

Case still matters

ახალი წიგნი is nominative; ახალ წიგნს is dative. Compare დიდი სახლი and დიდ სახლში (in a big house). Learn these phrases; Georgian adjectives are not universally invariable. Also learn კარგი წიგნი → კარგ წიგნს (a good book as a dative object).

მე ახალ წიგნს ვკითხულობ.

I am reading a new book.
