Explicit past forms for writing

ես գրում էի; դու գրում էիր; նա գրում էր; մենք գրում էինք; դուք գրում էիք; նրանք գրում էին. The imperfect describes ongoing or habitual past actions; it does not itself assert completion.

Carry the distinction into context

կարդում էի = I was reading; աշխատում էի = I was working; սովորում էի = I was studying. Երեկ = yesterday; այն ժամանակ = then/at that time. Preserve է in էի, էիր, էր, էինք, էիք, էին.

Երեկ ես գիրք էի կարդում։

Yesterday I was reading a book.

A past negative

Ես չէի գրում։ = I was not writing. Learn չէի as a complete form; չեմ would put the action in the present.
