[Not so bad (just a little hitch)]
The bed and some shelves
Let's start with something positive: my room.
I live in a single room, and I have to say it's ok. It's big enough for studying, playing guitar and using the computer at the same time. The bathroom maybe is not very big, but I can't really complain about it: the shower is new, the washbasin is elegant but small. There's also a telephone with which I can call for free the other room's inhabitants (and of course also the rest of the world, but not for free :D).
I have to wait for the real winter to tell you something about the heating system (they say they will turn it on on November!)... Stay tuned!
At the moment it is not so cold. If you open the window only 3 or 4 penguins will enter your room. But there are no igloos on the hills yet. |

Shelves & chair
In my single room there are:
- 3 chairs
- 3 shelves
- 2 drawers
- 2 desks (one big, the other small)
- A private shower and toilet
- An entrance room with a big wardrobe
- Internet socket
- Cable TV socket (but not a TV. Bring your own if you want to waste time in front of it!)
- "Curtains"
I have to write something about the curtains: I'm used to sleep in complete darkness (I have
shutters at home) but I know that's not a tradition in Austria and Germany. So I came here prepared with a scarf. During the day it protects my throat and in the early morning I put it on my eyes to avoid seeing the light. Anyway, these are really the thinnest curtains I've ever seen: I can clearly see the trees in front of my window through them!
The washbasin and the mirror
I already wrote about the very negative side of the room (the
scaffolding with drill wielding builders just outside the window), so I won't write it again.
But here and here you can experience the way I usually wake up in the morning. The audios were recorded on the 11th of October. The first at 07.42, the second at 07.59, just before their break. I wonder why they don't start at 8.15? They could sleep a bit more, and me too! Probably that's the Austrian way.
Sometimes I think my father paid them to be sure I wake up early in the morning and start studying.
The Dark Side of the Room: the builders
Ah, if you come from warm countries (e.g. South Spain, Italy, Greece or North Africa) don't try to ask for extra bed linen, because you won't get any! So, bring your warmest ones here, it's better than trying to light your own little room-campfire. By the way, they probably know that it's not so warm here, because everywhere it says "It's forbidden to light fires or use open flames" and there are thousands of instructions about what to do in case of fire.
The wardrobe & the entrance room
Last notes about room cleaning. There's something funny.
On Monday the cleaning woman knocks at 8.30, opens the door, wakes me up (in case I managed to fall asleep during the builder's break), takes away my bin, and that's all. On Tuesday she does the same but at 10 she also cleans the room. On Wednesday she only takes away the bin. Then I see her again next Monday. Probably they noticed that we use the bin more in the first 2 days of the week...
Fortunately the cleaning woman is very friendly and we talked a bit. I also asked her when the f***ing builders will stop drilling. "Next week... Maybe".
